The best Ground

The Wanderers cricket groThis is the ground where 2003 World Cup final was played and after Ricky Ponting hurricane, Indian team never looked like winning the title. This is the ground where record 434 runs were made and then chased down - called the greatest one day international. And this is the cricket ground which is nick named - "The bull ring" for it's intense spectator atmosphare. It's called The wanderers in Johannesburg. The ground realities :Built in 1956, this was the third test ground in Johannesburg, South Africa and never failed to mesmerise cricket lovers with its beauty and facilities. Another factors that you should know if you are planning to visit this 30,000 seat stadium is that it's approximately 25 kms away from Johannesburg's "Jan Smuts" International airport. The speciality of Wanderers stadium is it's "Open east stands" where cricket lovers can enjoy a cricket match and winter sunshine - not seated but laying on their backs - half naked. This Johannesburg grounds had four 30 meter high floodlights for quite some time, but they replaced it with five 65 meters floodlights to make Day/night cricket matches a spectacle. On the Wednesday evening of 1st October 2001, a fire broke into the clubhouse of the Wanderers stadium, which destroyed nearly all the memorabilia and everything else related to the history of South African cricket. The irony is that the fire brigade came, checked and found nothing wrong. They started their way back before the "clock tower" for the historic pavilion collapsed. The Wanderer pitch :The pitch at this Johannesburg cricket stadium used to be fast and bouncy, very similar to what you expect from a South African pitch but lately, it has been a batsmen paradise. The exgaggerating bounce has turned into "just perfect" for batsmen to play their strokes and the fastness of the pitch helps them as well.Although the test matches at this ground has been closely fought, which means that the pitch curators know what they do with Wanderers pitch.Records at Wanderers :The highets test match score at this ground is 214 by Greg Blewett of Australia while the best bowling figues goes to Hugh Tayfield for his 9 for 113 againt England in 1956 - the very first test match at the Wanderers ground. The weather report.und in Johannesburg
